Thames and Kosmos 665006 Climate and Weather

The state of Earth’s atmosphere affects us all, which explains why the weather is one of the most popular topics of conversation and scientific study. With 23 hands-on experiments, you can investigate specific weather phenomena as well as the climate system in general. Build a model of Earth and its atmosphere and then use it to conduct experiments that show how the global wind system works. Trace air currents from the icy cold poles to the warm equator and back with a wisp of smoke. Model Earth’s heat reservoirs, thermals, and global and local winds. Recreate ocean currents in a small basin of water. Simulate Earth’s rotation and revolution to learn how the sun affects the weather daily and seasonally. Learn about the climatic zones and the composition of the atmosphere. Experiment to see how carbon dioxide levels affect temperature. Explore the hydrological cycle to learn about humidity, clouds, and precipitation. Build a simple barometer, set up a rain gauge, and track the temperature. Full-color, 48-page manual.

Climate science for kids

Needed a last minute gift for a birthday party this weekend, dropped by Friday afternoon and picked this up. The kid loved it and her mom said they've been going through the experiments and it's been a good learning toy!

Excellent starting point

There were a lot of great experiments to do in here. My son and daughter are learning a lot from it, and most important asking questions. It's definitely a great way to get interest in science and weather going.

Not a bad set.

It's meant for older kids, and I see why. I'd got this kit as a gift and six year old daughter kind of left it, but she randomly came with the box to me and wanted to do it. We looked in the kit, and she was more interested in the balloon and the clay - this is why it may not be the best for younger kids, lol - but we did do the first couple experiments and had fun. Maybe next time we'll focus on one or two that use the clay and balloons.

Nice as always

Thames & Kosmos science kits are the best. They have good instructions and the kits just ooze fun out of them. No part of this kit is wasted either. The kids had fun with it and I am glad we got it
